Saijo Sakagura-dori Street and SAKE festival
Saijo Sakagura-dori Street is lined with
historic sake breweries. The red tiles that shine against the white walls, and
the red brick chimneys that stand side by side make you feel the atmosphere of
Sakagura-dori. Why don't you go out to the townscape where traditional sake
breweries are alive in modern times?
There is also a sake brewery where you can
tour the inside of a sake brewery that you can't usually see, and you can
experience the traditional sake brewing culture.
Saijo's specialty, “Bishunabe”, was born as
a meal for the brewers. Seasonal vegetables and meat are seasoned with sake and
salt and pepper. The alcohol content is gone, so people who don't like alcohol
and children can eat it deliciously.
In Higashi-Hiroshima City, there are many
sweets related to sake, such as sake, amazake, and sake lees. Both Japanese
sweets and Western sweets are good for gifts and souvenirs. Not only for those
who like sake, but also for those who don't like sake and children, it will be
a great souvenir for sake capital. You can't miss the masterpieces of well-established
and up-and-coming patisserie shops.
The “Sake Festival”, an autumn tradition of
Saijo, is held every October around Saijo Sakagura-dori Street. In addition to
enjoying local sake from all over the country, various events are held.
